The Utö Local Heritage Society maintains a local heritage museum that tells the story of the island's history and the lives and livelihoods of the people of Utö over the centuries. The museum is open during the summer months, and the opening hours are published annually in the spring.

The museum building is called Stenhuset (The Stone House). It was built in 1753 in connection with the construction of the first lighthouse and is thus the oldest building on Utö.

Stenhuset served as official housing for the lighthouse keepers until the 1860s when the fireplaces were demolished. By then, the lighthouse keepers had already primarily lived in the new "fyrbyggningen" erected in the 1840s on the other side of the road.

Stenhuset then functioned as a storage space, workshop, and woodshed until the 1990s, when the Swedish Maritime Administration had the building thoroughly renovated and subsequently rented it out to the Utö Local Heritage Society, which opened a local heritage museum in the building on July 27, 1991.

In four different exhibition rooms, the central aspects of Utö are presented: maritime activities, fishing and hunting, pilot and lighthouse operations, and village life.

Utö Local Heritage Museum is open in the summer. The opening hours and admission fees are published annually in the spring on this page and on the Pargas website.

If you wish to arrange a group visit to the museum outside regular opening hours, contact the Utö Local Heritage Society: utohbf@gmail.com.

The museum is located in Fyrbacken, and you will find it on the left side of the road if you walk down the hill towards the east.
